Pope Francis the supreme cleric of the Catholic Church and the greatest religious leader of Christians, died on Monday morning. He breathed his last at the age of 88. He had been battling double pneumonia for a long time. Pope Francis died at around 7:35 a.m. on Monday morning at the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta residence. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi also mourned his death. PM Modi has also met Pope Francis, the biggest religious leader of Christians. He met the Pope in Vatican City in October 2021. During this time, the two leaders discussed many important issues, including topics such as the Kovid-19 epidemic, global peace and social service. This was the first direct meeting of an Indian Prime Minister with Pope Francis, who has been the head of the Catholic Church since 2013.
In 2024, PM Modi and Pope Francis met once again during the G7 summit held in Apulia, Italy. This time, the two leaders exchanged a warm hug and had cordial conversations, during which Prime Minister Modi extended a formal invitation to Pope Francis to visit India. India has the second largest Catholic population in Asia, so this invitation has special significance.
